Free Easy Crochet Basket Pattern

Storage is everything! You can never have too much storage right? I love having baskets for everything. And these days, living plastic free is the forefront of our minds, and crochet storage hits the spot with that.

Made with 100% cotton yarn, these storage baskets are great for the environment and can be washed if they get a bit grubby - no throwing away!

This pattern is suitable for crocheters of all levels. The basket is worked in the round, so having a stitch marker is essential so you know where your rounds end. Move the stitch marker up each round so you don’t lose your place

Materials needed:

8mm Hook

Chunky Cotton Rope Yarn - I have used ”Return of the Mac” yarn from Hobbycraft

Stitch marker - could use a bobby pin or safety pin too

Scissors

Yarn needle

Pattern: (in UK terms)

Foundation: Magic ring, ch1, 6 dc in to the MR and pull closed (Mark the first dc with your stitch marker) (6sts)

Row 1: 2 dc in to each stitch (12sts)

Row 2: 2dc in st, 1 dc in next st - repeat all the way round (18sts)

Row 3: 2dc in st, dc in next 2 sts - repeat all the way round (24sts)

Row 4: 2dc in st, dc in next 3 sts - repeat all the way round (30sts)

Row 5: DC in BLO (back loop only) of each stitch around (30sts)

Row 6-12: Dc in each stitch around (30 sts). Fasten off and weave in ends.

Hey presto! You have yourself a nifty storage basket. If you want to make a bigger basket, simply increase the number of rounds in your base, adding an extra dc each round: eg 2dc then 4 dc all the way round and so on.
